Will Reid
Will is an analyst on the Sequoia team.
Will interned at two investment firms during college, Davenport & Company and Heard Capital. He joined Ruane Cunniff as a summer intern and then as a full time analyst upon graduation in 2022.
Will graduated from the University of Chicago, Cum Laude, with a BA in Economics and Philosophy.
How did you develop your investment philosophy/get interested in investing?
Back in 2009, long before the days of Carvana, I helped my dad list and sell his 1971 Oldsmobile convertible on eBay. He gave me a $100 “commission” for my efforts. After weighing a couple of options which at the time mostly consisted of Nintendo games and Brett Favre jerseys, I used that commission to make my first investment – 5 shares of The Walt Disney Company. Following that I enjoyed exploring investing without any real direction for a few years until I stumbled on Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway letters in high school. Like many of my peers, that was a lightbulb moment for me and helped form the basis for how I think about investing today.
What attracted you to Ruane Cunniff?
The people! I initially reached out because I identified with the investing philosophy that I glimpsed through our Investor Day transcripts, but what really sold me was the fact that Ruane Cunniff is the most curious group of people I think I've ever come across.
